5 Simple Ways To Live A Life You Love
My partner and I have a walking day once a month. We each take a day off work to be together. We schedule it ahead. We choose a new place to walk each month. Sometimes it tips rain, sometimes it’s sunny. We go with the flow and dress accordingly. Rainier days get more café time. We hold the boundary and don’t do anything else except hang out together on these days.
We used to have walking days just on our birthdays. Then one time we realised we really loved these days. We noticed that we were giving ourselves permission to have a lovely day … just twice a year. We surfaced the rules and expectations surrounding that (‘it’s a treat’, ‘it’s impossible to get days off’, ‘it’s hard to get child care’). We realised we could choose to step out of these rigid rules and create some new freedoms!
We love walking days – we can do them more!
What about you? How can you do more of what you love to do?
DO the things that make you FEEL how you want to feel. Decide how you want to feel. Find the things that help you feel that feeling. Do more of that thing.
I’m not suggesting that you should have a walking day. Trekking across a fell in the rain may be your ideal of hell. But what’s your equivalent of a walking day?
What do you love to do? What activities or experiences bring you the feelings that you want to feel (love, belonging, joy, fun, adventure, connection etc ..)
How can you do more of what you love?
How can you schedule it into your days and weeks and months ahead?
The benefits of these small choices are cumulative. By scheduling these days into my diary, I’m inviting goodness into my life. I’m making space for more joy and this leads to more energy, more spaciousness and to an overall sense of enjoying my life, even through all the adversity and challenge.
Here’s my 5 tips for living more of the life you love:
Make each moment meaningful. Take a breath. Connect with your body. You’re alive. Ask yourself what do I need right now, what’s important to me right now.
Be present to your feelings. Your feelings fluctuate, ebb and flow throughout your day. Your feelings are designed to be felt. They hold data for you – they tell you what’s important to you. Tune in. Feel it all. Let it pass.
Be enough! You are worthy, you are capable, you have all that you need to take you to the next step. You are enough!
Connect with your people. 2+ years of pandemic and we’re feeling the lack of in-real-life connection. Call a relative. Have a cuppa with a neighbour. Take a walk with a friend. Plan an adventure or trip out.
Everyone is your teacher. Even the people you find ‘irritating’ ‘annoying’ ‘boring’– hold up the mirror, what are they teaching you.
Which of these tips resonate for you?
