Beating Corona Anxiety - 6 Ways to Stay Sane through Corona Virus

How are you doing this week? I hope you’re ok. We’re living through complex, fascinating times right? !

I’ve found myself trying to make plans, gauging whether events might or might not be cancelled, liaising with kids’ schools, messaging friends in various places, engaging with my online community and listening to the news ALL at the same time …

Whoooaaaaooo!
While there are some very real concerns and some very practical things we can each do to keep ourselves and our loved ones healthy …

Getting completely stressed out is not serving anyone.

This feels like a time when we (I’ll own it, I) can get swept up in fear, uncertainty… hysteria even... and Corona- Anxiety can feel very intense.

It’s even more important than ever that we can access our calm and our resourcefulness.

Our central nervous systems can get highjacked at times like this – leading to heightened stress levels which impact our reasoning, clarity of thinking and ability to make wise, compassionate decisions.

I’m quoting Erin Stutland here:

As much as we are monitoring the news, we should be monitoring our own thoughts and feelings.

As much as we are paying attention to how long we wash our hands, we should pay attention to how long we let ourselves spiral into repeated, fearful thinking.

As much as we are stocking up on supplies, we should be attending to practices that keep us physically energized, elevated and at ease.’

YOU are in control of how you keep your mind and body in a calm, steady place.

Here’s my tips on how to be kinder to your central nervous system during these turbulent times :)

💚 Guard your heart – rather than being constantly plugged into updates that are designed for clicks and diverting attention, take in the news and virus alerts in bitesize form that you control. I don’t have the news on constantly, I take my updates in podcast form, while I’m making kids’ tea.

👣 Stay grounded – set your intentions each day – here’s a reminder. This #PowerPractice keeps you centred and you can come back anytime you're knocked 'off'.

🏃🏽Get into your body – take a walk if you can get outside, do some yoga stretches, run up and down the stairs, put some music on that you love and dance like nobody’s watching. Trust me you will feel soooo much better.

💫 Stay thankful – dig into your gratitude practice - here's a reminder.  This #PowerPractice helps you shift your mood and headspace.

🙋🏼 Stay connected – if you're self-isolating or staying away from work or public spaces, find virtual ways to connect. Call a friend, check in with a neighbour, set up a virtual co-working meeting on Zoom or Skype (they’re free to use).

🌸 Stay safe – obvs please do all the precautionary things!
